When we were younger, fairytales revolved around ‘damsels in distress’, waiting for their prince to show up on a white steed and ‘save’ them. But nowadays, kids have better stories to read. Like ‘Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls’ by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo. Perhaps that’s why more and more young girls are being their own heroes and tackling problems head-on.
Case in point, this Class X student from Thrissur who was seen riding a horse to get to school and write her final examination.
This video clip from my #whatsappwonderbox shows how a girl student is going to write her Class X final exam in Thrissur district, Kerala. This story made my Sunday morning brew of @arakucoffeein taste better! After all, ARAKU coffee is about #cupofchange #GirlPower @NanhiKali pic.twitter.com/45zOeFEnwV

While we don’t know what circumstances caused her to travel in such a manner, we can all agree that it is she is pretty badass! And this isn’t the first time a student has overcome odds and put their education first and foremost. Earlier, a girl from Tamil Nadu sat for her Class XII board exams 2 days after her parents passed away in an accident. And a differently-abled student from Tripura wrote his Class X boards with his feet.
The courageous act of the girl was lauded by netizens, with some even comparing her to ‘Devasena’ from the movie ‘Baahubali 2’. Chairman of the Mahindra Group, Anand Mahindra, also shared her video.

It is heartwarming to know that the young minds of the nation are increasingly prioritising their education over anything else. Hopefully, this dedication and drive will ensure that India becomes 100% literate in the future.
