IPS Officer On How He Lost 43 Kgs: “Eating When I Was Full Was The Culprit”

We have come across many weight loss transformation stories like a Mumbai girl who went from 100+ kgs to 64 kgs, or how another 14-year-old who was once the ‘world’s fattest kid’ lost 108 kgs on his weight loss journey. And here’s another story that has inspired my unfit self to go workout.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, IPS officer Vivek Raj Singh Kukrele shared how his training in the National Police Academy, Hyderabad helped him shed a large amount of weight. He revealed how he initially weighed 88 kg in class 8, and hadn’t weighed himself after that as being “chubby” was normalized and considered to be “cute” as a child. It was after he joined the academy that checked his weight and it came out to be 134 kg.

He revealed how he suffered from hypertension due to his weight gain and was required to take medication for it. On his weight loss journey, he said, “46 weeks of rigorous training of NPA made me Pass out with the weight of 104 Kg, which was a big achievement for me.”

However, his path to weight loss came with its own set of challenges. He explained how he again gained weight after initially losing it. He recalled, “During earlier days of service, serving in difficult Naxal areas of Bihar made me gain weight again and I reached up to 138 Kg.”

Kukrele revealed how his eating habits, especially over-eating, was the main reason for his weight gain over the years. He shared, “Basically I am a foodie and I used to eat a lot. ‘Khana fikna nahi chahiye’ (Food should not be wasted) has been always my motto, eating without application of mind and eating even when I was full was the culprit for weight gain.”

After a while, he managed to lose 8-9 kgs and maintained his weight at 130 kg for almost 9 years. But things changed when he started walking during one of his official assignments. He said, “Walking became a part of life and I started reducing weight. Gradual weight reduction made me start strength training and mindful eating which further boosted weight reduction.” Besides walking, he also started following a “quantified diet” that toned his body and helped him reduce 43 kg.

I have reduced 43 kg till now and I just want to maintain with better body shape.” He concluded by noting that he now has control over his blood pressure and that his resting pulse rate is 40 BPM.
