Angry Locals Catch Indore Municipal Workers Dumping Elderly Homeless People Outside City

In 2020, Indore was declared ‘India’s Cleanest City’ for the fourth consecutive time by the Union Housing. The city’s exponential win was indeed an achievement worth celebrating and had brought a lot of pride to citizens. However, a recent incident stands as a shocking revelation behind the “cleanest city” feat.

According to NDTV, a team of Indore Municipal Corporation workers have been caught on camera dumping elderly homeless people by the side of a highway in the outskirts of the city. It is assumed that the homeless people were gathered from within the city.

Videos, which were shot by angry and protesting locals, shows homeless people being dropped from a truck with their belongings and being abandoned on the road. Have a look:

“The incident happened between 2 and 2.30 pm. An IMC truck carrying around 8-10 elderlies came here, after which the staff on the truck forcibly alighted the aged people, including two to three women, on the roadside. When I asked the IMC staff why they were doing so with the homeless, the staff responded that they’ve been directed by the authorities to leave them here as they are creating trouble and filth in Indore city. Subsequently, the truck was leaving the place after abandoning the elderlies, but we forced it to return and take back the elderlies,” said Rajesh Joshi, a local who shot one of the videos.

According to TNIE, MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan has ordered the suspension of IMC deputy commissioner Pratap Solanki. Two other contractual staffers who were involved in the incident are terminated from service.

The victims have reportedly been shifted to winter shelters.

What a condemnable way to treat the homeless!
