Husband Pays ₹55K Maintenance To Wife In Coins At Court, Her Lawyer Calls It ‘Harassment’

Love can bring out the best and the worst in a person, especially when the person is married. An unhappy marriage leads to circumstances one can never even think of. Like this case between a husband and wife named Dashrath Kumawat and Seema Kumawat from Jaipur.

Dashrath and Seema were married for 10 years. But after their 3-4 years of marriage, massive disputes erupted between the two. Hence, after almost a decade of their marriage, Dashrath filed for divorce. During the hearing of the case, the family court asked him to pay Rs 5,000 to the wife every month as maintenance, reported Telangana Today.

However, for 11 months, Dashrath didn’t pay the amount to Seema and the court was forced to issue a recovery warrant against him for the non-payment of maintenance. He was arrested on June 17 and was produced in court.

On that very day, Dashrath paid Rs 55,000 maintenance to his wife in Re 1 and Rs 2 coins! The coins were kept in 7 bags and weighed 280 kgs in total.

Seema’s advocate called it ‘harassment’ and ‘inhumane’.

“This is not humane. The husband is not paying the amount of maintenance for 11 months. Now he has brought coins of Rs 55,000 to harass his wife. It will take 10 days just to count them. On this, the court directed the husband to get the coins counted in the court itself and make bags of coins worth Rs 1,000 each,” he said.

On the other hand, the husband said that the coins were legal Indian currency, so Seema has to accept it. However, the court set another date for the hearing and asked Dashrath to make bags of Rs 1,000 each and give them to Seema.

The level of pettiness some people can go to! 😛
