Online games have become our escape from boredom during the coronavirus lockdown. A few rounds of carrom, ludo or PUBG, before going to bed has become a quarantine ritual for many of us. A 24-year-old woman in Vadodra asked her husband to play a few rounds of ludo with her so he would stay home during the lockdown instead of spending all the time with his friends in the society, TOI.
The husband agreed to play the game. However, after losing to his wife for a couple of consecutive rounds, an argument broke out between the couple.
“A sore loser, he started arguing with his wife and the verbal duel turned ugly. He started beating her with such ferocity that the woman developed a gap between two of her vertebrae. His ego was hurt thinking that wife outsmarted him and was more intelligent as she also contributed to the family income,” a counselor from 181 Abhayam helpline said.
Her husband works with an electronics company and earns well but in order to support him in paying a home loan installment, the wife started taking home tuitions and did a beautician course.
She was taken to an orthopedic doctor who treated her for spinal injuries. She then decided to pick some documents up from her home and move to her parent’s place. After counseling, the husband apologized to the woman. However, she said she does not want to file a police complaint against the man and would return to him after a few days.
Sheer Madness!

He was let go after "counselling." This is what women dealing with domestic violence have to deal with.

Biggest mistake women make:
“In this case since the husband apologized and the woman did not wish to register an offence, so we counselled to live to together and the consequences about marital discord.” https://t.co/WT7is835el— SSM (@SwatySMalik) April 27, 2020

Violence in a fit of anger deserves no leniency. Domestic violence is a red flag and victims in such cases often sustain emotional scars as well as physical ones. Seeking counseling and therapy by a professional is critical in such situations.
