Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period drama, ‘Padmavat’ releases today but the off-screen drama refuses to die down. Mired in controversies from day one, the film saw everything; from vandalism to warnings, from death-threats to bounties, the entire crew was targetted by Karni Sena and like-minded protestors who believed that Rajput pride and valour was under threat.
But while I could still wrap my head around the clash that was between two concerning parties, with legal aid from the Supreme court, the recent face-off has left me red-faced.
If you haven’t heard already, amidst torching public vehicles, goons in Gurugram attacked a school bus ferrying kids and teachers yesterday, ahead of the release of the film.

Reportedly, Karni Sena goons attacked GD Goenka school bus at Sohna Road of Gurugram as children and teachers took shelter under the seats, crying for help. The bus somehow managed to escape.
Needless to say, the video has now gone viral and a whirlwind of tweets have surfaced, condemning the cowardly act.
1. ‘It is terrorism.’
Attacking a school bus is not an agitation. It is terrorism. The people who did it are terrorists. Please refer to them as such.

2. When will this stop?

3. Oh, the irony of it all…
Our Republic Day is two days away and our children are terrified and sobbing inside a school bus attacked by shameless thugs over a damned movie. Rage Rage Against The Dying Of The Light… #Padmaavat

4. Can you argue that?
In latest news, Karni Sena attacks a school bus and hurl stones at kids in the bus because they're offended that those little kids are already more educated than their whole lot.#Padmavaat #IndiaWithPadmaavat

5. Shameful!
Video of school bus attacked today in Gurugram by anti-Padmavati cowards. This is the aukat of groups like the Karni Sena: attackers of little kids. May the men responsible for this never be able to walk again. pic.twitter.com/4ZFKvJboKc

6. This is the times we live in.
Nothing is more inhuman than stoning a school bus with children hiding behind the seats. I strongly condemn the despicable act of #KarniSena in the name of protest against #Padmaavat movie in #Gurugram ,

7. Bring them to justice.
I Protest & remove 'Singh' from my Profile Name till the goons of school bus attack in Gurugram are brought to justice…Feeling deeply ashamed & shamefull..

8. The realisation runs to bite me.
Let's take a moment to process that a school bus full of kids was attacked not too far away from where there will be a very secure and protected Republic Day Parade soon.

9. ‘Do something’ and now!
This video of raging lunatics terrorizing kids about a damn movie should haunt haryana and central govt- how can you speak of protecting our borders or from terror when you let some hooligans hold up a school bus like this! Schools are shut thanks to their threats- do something pic.twitter.com/VSPlQLRlUP

10. My head hangs in shame…
What sort of thugs would attack schoolchildren? And this a day after the PM spoke at Davos on our centuries old tradition of tolerance and harmony. https://t.co/diGLTUcUMk
— Vikram Chandra (@vikramchandra) January 24, 2018
11. Honour?
Whatever little honour was left, has also been lost by attacking a school bus of children.
— Shirish Kunder (@ShirishKunder) January 25, 2018
12. As ridiculous as it sounds.
Rajput pride…attack a school bus with children, for a movie. Disgusting.

13. Where’s the pride in this?
What kind of the valour is this? Attacking kids! #IndiaWithPadmaavat

14. WORD.
#IndiaWithPadmaavat
Wow!! Brave Rajputs attacking school kids! Go to border instead if you have the guts.— hereiam_hi (@hereiam_hi) January 24, 2018
15. For God sake!
Its ironical that Karni Sena decides to hold different cities to ransom because of a movie based on a fictional character when Republic Day is just around the corner. Someone needs to throw the Constitution at them. #IndiaWithPadmaavat
— Shweta Duggal (@shduggal) January 24, 2018
It is not only ironical that we are fighting the draconian ways and lop-sided views of fanatics a day ahead of Republic day, but also alarming that after all these years, nothing has changed. Not a damn thing!
However, the FIR has now surfaced which mentions that 50-60 people shouted slogans of Karni Sena.
