Gaurav Gera Apologises For Body-Shaming Neha Kakkar In Comedy Video After Getting Slammed

Neha Kakkar, a small-town girl rose to fame after participating in the second season of the singing reality show, Indian Idol. Ever since then, the singing sensation never looked back. From delivering back to back chartbusters to becoming a judge on the same reality shows that she once competed in, Neha Kakkar has achieved remarkable milestones in her life.

Recently, a short clip from Sony Max channel’s comedy show hosted by popular comedians Kiku Sharda and Gaurav Gera has rubbed Neha the wrong way. In the video, Kiku is seen as a doctor and Gaurav as a nurse, a relatively petite person visits them as a patient and introduces herself as ‘Neha Shakkar’. The comedians are seen mocking the ‘patient’, making offensive remarks about her talent, height and looks, reports HT.

The video did not go down well with Neha and she took to social media to slam the makers of the show and channel for pulling off such an indecent mockery on her in the name of comedy. “Shame on these people for creating such negative and insulting content! My people know how much I appreciate comedy on me and otherwise but this one is ridiculous! Stop using my name, stop enjoying, dancing and acting to my songs if you hate me so much. Thankless people,” she wrote.

Brother Tony Kakkar too shared the video on his Instagram and expressed his disappointment on the same.

After facing severe backlash, Gaurav Gera came forward to share his side of the story and apologised to Neha saying that he did not mean to hurt her.

“I would not want to hurt her, because, I am a fan of hers. I love the way she sings and her songs are definitely parties ki jaan (her songs add fun to the party). Even if I don’t know her personally, we share greetings with each other whenever we meet. Her talent is totally appreciated, I am nobody to prove it to her. She has 30 million followers on Instagram who are there to prove her that how much they love her,” he told TOI.

Gaurav also said that he himself is a big fan of Neha and shared, “And she has not directly blamed us. She has also shared her disappointment with the channel. The channel has removed the video. Kiku and I, we both were talking and we are a fan of hers. Who doesn’t love her? We are proud of her. She is got India name and fame. My idea was not to hurt her.”

“She is fantastic, a rockstar and she doesn’t need me to say it. I didn’t even know about the height part, and I myself don’t have an average height. Kiku is short heighted. We make fun of each other so much in all the episodes. Meri koi aukat nahi hai to tell her anything… (I am no one to comment on her). I really had no idea that she would be so hurt,” he added.

Gaurav also shared that neither he nor Kiku Sharda had any contribution to the script and just recited the lines that were given to them. He, however, said that they tried to tone down the script as it was getting offensive.

Meet #sanseveria ( the one on the left 🤪) pic by @bobbykhurana_ Long, tongue-like leaves with sharp pointed tips earn Sansevieria trifasciata the endearingly euphemistic name of #motherinlawstongue , although certain varieties also resemble the geometrically patterned scales of a snake. The sturdy leaves of Sansevieria shoot upwards majestically, with beautiful twists and turns that resemble a mobius strip. One of the top air purifying plants identified by NASA, Sansevieria removes at least 107 known air pollutants, including carbon monoxide and nitrogen monoxide, formaldehyde, chloroform, benzene, xylene, and trichloroethylene among many others. Sansevieria also produces copious amounts of oxygen throughout the night, making it an excellent plant to keep in the bedroom. Best of all, Sansevieria is an extremely resilient species that can go for weeks without water and seems to thrive in just about any climate, including those with low light, although they do appreciate direct sunlight and fresh air on occasions Some believe that having Sansevieria near children helps reduce coarseness, although care must be taken to ensure the child cannot reach the plant's poisonous leaves. #pollution

“The idea was definitely not to hurt her. She shouldn’t have any haters, we have not done this because we hate her. I am just an actor and that is just a show. We were given a few lines to enact by the writers, the channel, the production house. They are more sensible than us and they have their own working equation with Neha because she does a show (Indian Idol 11) for them. I don’t have that equation with them. I did a show after 13 years with the channel Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, so I leave it to them. I am hired to act and mouth the line which is given to me, definitely, we tried (Kiku Sharda and I) a lot to town down a few things. We cut a lot of things because we felt it was not in good taste. We did try our best. We shot a lot throughout the day,” he said.

Talking about how careful he will be about his script from now on Gaurav shared, “I have always tried to stay away from controversy. I have tried my best to even stay away from shows on TV. Even during the shoot, we kept saying where we felt it is going overboard. We tried our best, but whatever they felt should go they aired and rest they edited out. You have seen what I do when it comes to comedy. I thought they (Channel and Production house) work on so many comedy shows on the small screen they must be aware of the sensibilities. They know what runs and also they had an equation with Neha so they should have known where to stop. But I would like to apologise to her and I love her. She is fantastic.”

Neha Kakkar has, however, not yet responded to Gaurav’s recent comments. Let’s wait and watch if she has accepted the apology. Meanwhile, what are your thoughts on the entire matter? Tell us!
