Video From Faroe Islands Shows Water Rising From The Sea & Flowing Upwards

They say reality is better than fantasy. And for those of us who have trouble believing it, we only have to look at nature get rid of all our misgivings. Whether it is the ‘reverse waterfall‘ seen in Scotland or an octopus changing colours while dreaming, nature has the ability to constantly amaze and mesmerize us.

According to NDTV, on January 6, 41-year-old Samy Jacobsen captured gravity-defying footage of water rising from the sea and flowing upwards along the cliffs off Suouroy in the Faroe Islands.

Yahoo News reports that the 470m cliff is known as Beinisvørð and the incredible moment happened because the waves got caught in a sea vortex called a water spout.

Greg Dewhurst, a senior operational meteorologist at the Met Office was quoted explaining,

“To us here in the operations centre it looks like a water spout (a spiralling pillar of air), which is a little like a tornado but it forms over the water. The cliff edge is helping to spin the wind around and we think this is why it forms quite quickly.”

Essentially, this water spout is sucking up the water and making it flow upwards. How cool is that? Here is how Twitter reacted to the footage. Take a look.

Maybe this is why they say nature is the best artist. And also the best filter!
