Our memories from when we were 15-years-old are generally about school, friends and play. But not everyone is that lucky. Some adolescents are scarred by scary memories at that age which they cannot let go of, even after growing up. Especially if it’s a memory related to a parent, the slightest trigger can set the emotional drive in motion.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, recently shared in an Instagram post how he stopped his mother from her suicide attempt when he was just 15-years of age. He said that his mom doesn’t recall the incident even today, but he does.

Not your typical scene on our comedy #ballers, as I cracked a beer open toasting my character’s brother, William who committed suicide. Got me thinkin’ though bout how many of us have been affected by suicide of our friends, family. Struggle and pain is real. We’ve all been there on some level or another. My mom tried to check out when I was 15. She got outta the car on Interstate 65 in Nashville and walked into oncoming traffic. Big rigs and cars swerving outta the way not to hit her. I grabbed her and pulled her back on the gravel shoulder of the road. What’s crazy about that suicide attempt is to this day, she has no recollection of it whatsoever. Probably best she doesn’t. Shits of a scene to shoot – didn’t like it – but it did reminder that we always gotta do our best to really pay attention when people are in pain. Help ‘em thru it, get ‘em talkin’ about the struggle and remind ‘em that they’re not alone. We got lucky that day when I was 15 and that ain’t always the case.

While shooting at a graveyard for his series called ‘Ballers’, he was driven to recall this scary incident of his life. He further went on to urge people to help others who are mentally disturbed and worn down to get through the pain.

The caption read as follows:

“Not your typical scene on our comedy #ballers, as I cracked a beer open toasting my character’s brother, William who committed suicide.

He has previously spoken about his mom’s suicide attempt in 2015 on Oprah’s Master Class. He said then,

“In that moment, one of the greatest lessons I’ve ever learned was how precious life is and how in an instant, it can all go away,” he said. “[It] changed me.”

Pain doesn’t always manifest itself in the way you expect it to. Sometimes, the pain gets so much to handle that it seems like dying would be a better release than anything else. But it is our responsibility to always help people in this kind of a pain to see and embrace the light of life, rather than otherwise.

Depression is real, and the people suffering from it need help. We must all try to be the help they seek. Kudos to Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson for sharing his personal story and inspiring people with positivity.
