Gender reveal parties are the new in-thing nowadays and people can come up with some really weird ideas to disclose whether the baby is a boy or a girl. However, one couple living in Texas took it up a notch.
Jonathan and Bridgette Joseph, the Texas couple, decided to toss a huge watermelon into a hippo’s mouth for the gender reveal. The watermelon was filled with blue coloured Jell-O. The hippo then chomps the watermelon and the blue Jell-O oozes out of his mouth, indicating that the couple is about to have a boy.
A video of the gender reveal has gone viral on the internet but people aren’t happy. Many are claiming that feeding the animal Jell-O which is filled with artificial food dye is not acceptable.

Here’s what people are saying:
Did they give that poor hippo chemicals ? @peta

That person's baby is not remotely important enough to feed a hippo 10 pounds of food coloring.

When he said “thank god” I was even more disgusted. Throw the whole couple away also is the hippo okay?

The joy on his face knowing it’s going to be a boy is simply the worst. Along with making a hippo behind a gated fence eating a food coloring watermelon.

However, the user who posted the video later got in touch with the couple who gave their statement regarding the ceremony. While justifying their actions, they claimed that the Jell-O was organic and completely harmless for the hippo and that the zoo officials made sure that it is perfectly okay. Allegedly, the hippo was more than happy to receive a “treat”.
Hi all! I’ve been in touch with the family in the video. While I’m not a fan of gender reveals, it was not my intention to bring darkness to their special day. Here’s some background written by Bridgette. Donations to the ACTUAL hippo in the vid here: https://t.co/rByV2mbXRK pic.twitter.com/fDWY29niTE
