While it is true that the coronavirus has left several families split apart after thousands of people have been subjected to isolation wards, seldom do we think about the kind of effect it has on the doctors and nurses treating patients who have been infected by COVID-19.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, a woman, whose husband is a doctor treating coronavirus patients, recently took to Twitter to reveal how their lives have changed post the pandemic.
She talks about how her husband has isolated himself from his family which consists of 3 kids, with one as young as 3 weeks, as a precaution. How he hasn’t held his kids in so long, and how she has to manage everything at home and simultaneously homeschool the kids.
She also expresses how heartbreaking it is to see pictures of people visiting pubs, restaurants, and socialising while families of health-care personnel are sacrificing so much for the wellbeing of others.

My spouse is a physician in the emergency dept, and is actively treating #coronavirus patients. We just made the difficult decision for him to isolate & move into our garage apartment for the foreseeable future as he continues to treat patients. (1/5)

We have a 3 wk old newborn and 2 young kids and just can’t risk it. It pains me to wonder how many weeks will go by that he won’t get to hold our new baby or see our older kids. This is one example of the sacrifice that healthcare workers are making for our communities. (2/5)

As I attempt to home school my kids (alone) with a new baby who screams if she isn’t held, I am worried about the health of my spouse and my family. This was not how I envisioned my maternity leave, but I know things could be worse. (3/5)

It is difficult to see pictures of all the people at bars and restaurants, socializing, making play dates, and ignoring social distancing recommendations when I know my husband and many other healthcare workers are risking their lives to treat more sick patients. (4/5)

Please, take this #pandemic seriously. I hope the projections of infections and serious cases are incorrect. If not, our healthcare system will be overloaded. And already we are seeing the strain. Please thank a healthcare worker for what they are doing and sacrificing. (5/5)

Wow, my heart goes out to you. I’m suddenly homeschooling twin 3 year olds. Today was the first day and it almost broke me and this was under relatively easy circumstances. Sending love and support to you and your family.

My husband is on service treating pts w/ #COVID19 too. Here’s where he’s sleeping for the next month. Important for people to recognize how much healthcare workers are pouring their hearts into caring for pts & trying to keep their families safe. pic.twitter.com/91OFdHVuXu

My husband is at his mother’s house, caregiving. She’s 95 and very frail. She lives 40 miles away. So basically I won’t be seeing my husband until after the danger passes. Possibly a couple of months. It’s a sacrifice for willing to make but I sure do miss him.

With the number of coronavirus cases on the rise, the least we can do is abide by precautionary measures to keep ourselves and people around us safe.
Respect to all doctors and nurses who are treating coronavirus patients!
