WATCH: Bride Halts Wedding To Slap A Man Who Picked Her Up Without Her Permission

According to the dictionary, marriage is the legal union between two people. But Indian marriages takes that number to two thousand people and makes it weird. Add to that a bunch of outdated customs, uncomfortable dresses and loud music, and you’ve a frustrated bride and a groom trying to survive instead of getting married.

However, this is the 21st century and brides are saying enough is enough. Just last week, a bride cancelled the wedding because her would-be husband was acting strangely after a lightning strike. Another bride broke into a dance number in her choli and jeans. And now one more badass is teaching men the meaning of consent at the mandap.

In a video that’s doing the rounds of the cyberspace, we can see a wedding ceremony where a man picks up the bride as part of the garlanding ritual. But things don’t go well for that man and the woman behind him.

Unless you’ve never seen or been to an Indian wedding, it’s customary for the bride and groom to exchange garlands. But that’s too simple. That’s why we Indians pick up the groom and the bride so that it’s “difficult” for them to do the needful. And that’s what happens here, but without the bride’s permission.

The bride calmly exchanges the garlands and as soon as she’s put down by the man, she turns around and slaps him. Additionally, in a moment of comedic gold and frustration, the man slaps someone else, who probably egged him on to pick the bride up. And while this might’ve made the ceremony awkward, everyone learnt the importance of consent thanks to this brutally honest bride.

As much as we won’t like to admit, Indian society is full of toxic masculinity where men think actions like picking a woman up is absolutely normal. But in all actuality, it’s not. And since polite requests haven’t worked, maybe it’s time to provide a lasting impression on them, just like this bride did.
