Welcome Move: Discarded Bus In Bengaluru Converted Into Mobile Canteen For BMTC Employees

A couple of years ago, the practice of turning old buses into playschools for poor kids began trending. In 2019, the Karnataka and Arunachal Pradesh state governments turned old buses into classrooms with books, stationery and toys for daily-wage labourers’ kids to spend their time in while their parents worked at a construction site.

This time around, Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) transformed a discarded, scrap bus into a mobile canteen for its staff. Tables were placed in the middle of the bus surrounded by a dozen seats. On the side, they placed a wash basin, a mirror and a place to hang towels from. There were windows at the side as well.

The mobile canteen will be stationed at the Peenya and Yeshwantpur depots of the corporation.

This particular bus had reportedly covered a distance of 10,64,298 km. The canteen will dispense hot meals and beverages for BMTC employees.

We hope more such buses are turned into mobile canteens for state employees!
