Meet Bed Bahadur, The Nepalese Soldier Who Won The World’s Highest Marathon On Mt. Everest

Running a marathon is a huge achievement in itself, and then there are people like Bed Bahadur Sunuwar.

Meet Bed Bahadur, the Nepalese soldier who won the world’s highest marathon in the snow covered foothills of Mount Everest.

Sunuwar was among the 150 local and foreign participants and finished the marathon in a record time of 4 hours and 10 seconds only.

The Tenzing-Hillary Everest Marathon takes place annually and starts from the Everest base camp at a height of 5,364 metres (17,598 feet), with finishing line about 2,000 metres below in the town of Namche Bazaar.

 

The marathon left many runners gasping for air due to the low oxygen in the air, but Sunuwar was determined to make it.

The marathon started in 2003 to mark the anniversary of the first summit of the peak by Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary in 1953

Bed Bahadur Sunuwar has displayed amazing endurance and made his country proud for sure.
