24 YO Volunteer Firefighter Saves Baby Kangaroo From Australian Bushfires, Watch Video

Australia is currently witnessing one of the worst wildfires in history. According to CNN, the raging bushfires have burned more than 17.9 million acres of land, killed at least 27 people and affected one billion animals.

Amidst all this devastation, however, stories of hope have also been coming to light. Earlier, owners of the Desi Grill restaurant along with their staff prepared hot meals for victims in temporary shelters and a bunch of teenagers saved 20 koalas giving them shelter in their car.

According to The Indian Express, 24-year-old Sam Mcglone, a filmmaker and volunteer firefighter from New South Wales, Australia, revealed that he and his family have been putting out bushfires and helping injured animals in the town of Braidwood.

He shared heart-rending footage of how he rescued a baby kangaroo (known as a joey), wrapped him in a damp blanket and offered him water in a bottle cap.

Mail Online reports that in the video, he can be heard saying, “I found a baby joey in the fire,” to his brothers. Towards the end, he addresses his followers and the joey by saying,

“Everyone meet my little baby. Saved him out of the fire today. We got you, buddy, don’t worry I’ve got you now.”

People are applauding him for his volunteer work, bravery, and kindness. Take a look at some of the reactions.

While the natural wildfires are caused by drought and extreme heat, CNN reports that New South Wales Police have charged 24 individuals for deliberately starting bushfires. We hope that such offenders are punished adequately for exacerbating the catastrophe.
