IndiGo Crew Setup Hospital In Minutes As Woman Flying To Bangalore Delivers Baby Mid-Air

We have come across many stories of people going beyond duty and helping others, especially during the pandemic. For instance, a Mizoram MLA helped a pregnant woman deliver her baby and saved her life, or how neighbors helped deliver a woman’s baby with her gynecologist on a video call.

As per a report in Times Now, a woman traveling from Delhi to Bengaluru on an IndiGo flight gave birth to a baby boy aboard on Wednesday evening. Both the mother and child are reportedly healthy. Additionally, all flight operations were normal during the delivery.

“We confirm that a baby boy was delivered prematurely on flight 6E 122 from Delhi to Bangalore. There are no further details available,” read IndiGo’s statement in response to a query from PTI, reports NDTV. They later added, “We just got information that a baby boy was born in our flight en route 6E 122 Delhi – BLR. Flight landing at 19:40. All operations normal. Mother and child healthy. Congratulations to all. Kudos to your training Team First Aid.”

The woman was not yet 32 weeks into her pregnancy, because of which the airlines granted her permission to fly. But she went into premature labor on board. Luckily, a senior gynecologist named Dr. Shailaja Vallabhani was present on the same flight and helped her. The flight’s crew also managed to set up a hospital within minutes, displaying exemplary teamwork, according to a Twitter user who was also present on the plane.

Another Twitter user present on the plane also lauded the trained and helpful flight attendants. They immediately took charge of the situation and helped deliver the baby safely.

In another video, the mother and the baby are seen being given a warm welcome upon landing at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. The airline crew and ground staff can be seen clapping and cheering while holding blue posters that read, ‘Welcome to namma Bengaluru’. The mother is finally taken to the ambulance on a wheelchair.

Zee News reports that IndiGo airlines have announced a lifetime free flight ticket for the child.

Kudos to everyone for their efforts! We wish both the mother and the baby good health and happiness going ahead!
