There’s no better feeling than saving a life and no worse feeling than watching someone die helplessly in front of you! Being an ex-traffic warden, 76-year-old Harjinder Singh from Delhi has experienced both.
While working as a traffic warden, Harjinder Singh came across several road accidents and unfortunately saw people breathing their last on the spot. So, he decided to do his bit in helping the ones who lay on the streets, injured after an accident. Accordingly, he started the service of a free auto ambulance in the city.
“In so many cases, people die on the road just because they don’t get timely help. People stand and look at them dying. I don’t want to be one of them,” Harjinder told TOI.
Harjinder currently owns an auto, after his working hours are finished, he refuels his auto and takes rides around the accident-prone areas in the city with a hope of providing immediate help to those injured in road accidents (if any).
“If god forbids, I come across an accident victim, I rush the victim to the nearest hospital so that a life is saved. There has been no looking back since the first when I was of help to someone,” said.
He has also completed his certified course in first aid so that he can provide immediate medical assistance to the victims. Apart from this, he also offers free diabetes medicines to the ones in urgent need. Moreover, all his services are free of cost.
Harjinder has caught the eye of several Delhites. Some of them have also shared his story and pictures on social media. He is certainly winning hearts not only on roads but also on social media.
Meet auto driver Harjinder Singh from #Delhi, who turns his auto into an ambulance to save lives of accident victims.
While there are so many people in this world who don't give way to ambulances, Mr. Singh’s act of kindness has saved hundreds of lives in times of emergency. 🙏 pic.twitter.com/AVC1mdcHdD
