A Russian Couple Landed In India After Dodging The Navy And Coast Guard Pretty Easily. What?

It was not even a week ago that Indian Coast Guard had warned the Mumbai Police that ISIS militants are seeking to sneak into the country through the sea. But, just yesterday a sailing Russian couple docked at Mumbai mistakenly. Yeah!

The couple – Orlov Dmitry (45) and Orlov Alena (39) were on a world sailing tour and had left their country in 2015. They anchored near the shore of Gateway of India.

They ran out of food and water near Yemen coast. When they spotted a lighthouse off the Mumbai coast in the Arabian Sea, they docked their yacht there after seeing many private yachts and fisher boats.

They reached out to the locals for help, but due to the language barrier they couldn’t understand what the Russian couple were saying. The locals then called the Mumbai Police, who detained the couple as soon as they reached there.

The cops didn’t find anything suspicious on the couple’s yacht except for a walkie-talkie. And after the Russian Embassy vouched for the Russian nationals, the couple were let off.

A Mumbai police officer told India Today,

“The couple had permission to get into Indian waters and not land. The couple left Russia for world tour on their yacht around a year back. They had permission. The couple mistakenly reached there and they are a very clean background which was crossed checked from Russian officials.”

But what came as shock was that they could really easily enter the Indian waters and dodge Navy and Coast Guard. A senior IPS officer expressed his shock and said,

“We are shocked the way the couple with huge Yacht got inside Indian territory through waters. They dodged Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, which is shocking and alarming. More measures needs to be taken.”

After the terrorist attacks of 2008 —in which 10 terrorists including Ajmal Kasab sailed from Pakistan and entered Mumbai via the sea and killed hundreds of people in the attacks the situation — people are scared. But, this news makes us question the security on the coastal borders. Doesn’t it?
