This Tree In Delhi University Gives Its Students 10 Litres Of FREE Beer Everyday!

I hate to admit but for the first time in a very long time, I’m envious of students in Delhi. There, I said it. As a Mumbaikar at heart, it’s perhaps one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. But hey, only a few things in this world are as beautiful as beer, and when there’s free beer involved, well then the list of comparables is close to zero.

There’s a very specialised neem tree on DU’s North Campus, which has been producing a white liquid from its sap. This has popularly come to be known as ‘neem beer’ amongst the tree’s chief clientele, DU students.

Can my envy be justified now?

 

Students have been queuing up in front of the tree each day for a taste of some fine neem beer.

Moreover, some say the student prefer this tree sap to regular liquor.

 

Further, this unique tree has been producing around 10 litres of this divine stuff each day!

And kudos to the guy who’s left a perpetual bucket there to catch every last drop.

 

For those curious to know the science behind this unique phenomenon, Dr David Kothamasi has an explanation.

“We suspect it is not the kind of toddy which we usually get from palm trees. There is some kind of microbial activity going on inside the tree. The microbe is helping the tree sap to ferment.”

I finally realised why the cut-offs for DU have always been so high. They’re harbouring an adult version of the freakin’ chocolate factory on campus!
