Milind Soman Talks About How He Didn’t Train For Ultraman And Hasn’t Worn Shoes In 6 Years

Milind Soman is literally in a league of his own. At 51, he is only getting better. And the proof of that is right in front of our eyes. He started with running marathons. Then he upgraded to running Ironman events and now, he’s pushed himself further to complete the ultra-hard 517 kilometers long Ultraman.

And if you thought that he’s done improving, he certainly is not. He’s already set his sights on the next challenge – the Badwater – 217 kilometers of a brutal run through the California Death Valley.

So, how is he training for that? He isn’t.

Milind Soman does not believe in training for Ultramarathons. He believes in staying Ultramarathon-fit all the time regardless if he’s running an event or not.

“My whole idea of being fit is not having to train for anything. That is the fitness level I aim to maintain.”

He wanted to see if he was fit enough to run an Ultraman without specifically training for it. And he accomplished it successfully, proving that he is a real Ultraman. But this level of fitness has not come easily.

He did train for his first triathlon event because he was a bad cyclist back then and was swimming after 25 years!

But after that, fitness has become a way of life for him. It has been 2 years now and he’s fit enough to run an Ultraman without specific training.

Unlike the rampant Bollywood culture of training hard to look good, Milind Soman has always trained hard to be fit.

Even 25 years ago, when he was a state and national champion in swimming, he trained only to be the best at swimming. The chiseled look he got for the ‘Made In India’ music video was purely because of that.

And the whopper – he had quit swimming years before he acted in the video.

“When I look back, even now, I am amazed because I did not build that body specifically for Made in India. It came from years of vigorous swimming.”

It is the same discipline he still carries today. He refrains from eating non-vegetarian food and his favourite staple food is khichdi

And his habit of running barefoot is very well-known among his fans.

He is so used to not wearing shoes that he hasn’t worn shoes even casually for the past 6 years! He prefers being barefoot and if the situation calls for it, wears sandals.

As we can see, acting is not Milind’s solo career. He loves to run and also work for his foundation – Pinkathon

Pinkathon encourages women to run marathons across 12 cities in India! Milind Soman is also going to appear alongside Saif Ali Khan in the Bollywood movie ‘Chef’. He’s also working to release his own line of activewear and a radio station to spread the awareness about fitness.

And if you are wondering how he’s getting so many things done alone, he swam 20 kilometers, cycled 434 kilometers and ran 84 kilometers – all in just 3 days. Barefoot.

We are pretty sure he can do anything he wants at this point.

Keep inspiring us, Mr. Soman!
