If there is one Indian minister who has made the best use of social media, it is our External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. She has always helped people in distress, from helping a Pakistani bride get her visa to bring back home a widowed mother of a newborn baby.
Even now, when Ms Swaraj is admitted in AIIMS for Kidney transplant, she is not leaving people in distress. A few days back, she helped a student get an Australian visa and now has helped an Egyptian lady get a medical visa for her treatment in India.
Eman Ahmed Abdulati, world’s heaviest lady from Egypt weighing 500 kg wanted to get a medical visa for her treatment in India. However, she wasn’t able to get it as she couldn’t get out of her house. So her doctor, Dr Muffazal Lakdawala, tweeted to Ms Swaraj for help.
Ma'am , Eman Ahmed (Egypt) 500kgs requested me 2 save her pls help me get her a medical visa as refused thru normal process @SushmaSwaraj pic.twitter.com/93Fwz6m8iL

The lady has not left her house since she tipped the scale at 500 Kgs over 20 years back. She is unable to even roll over in her bed. No doctor in Egypt could help her, so her sister reached for Dr Lakdawala, a renowned obesity surgeon.
Abdulati suffers from a disruption of the glands which causes her body to store huge amounts of water and also from a parasite called elephantiasis which causes extreme swelling. When Ms Swaraj learned about her, she responded quickly.
Thanks for bringing this to my notice. We will definitely help her. pic.twitter.com/l6RfC5bWE4 https://t.co/fWBYilbPIY

As Abdulati’s comes from a poor family, Dr Lakdawala also collected money for her travel.
“The family is poor and cannot afford the cost of a private chartered flight to Mumbai from Cairo. While we asked the family to make her passport and arrange for visa, I started collecting funds.”
Last evening, good news came for Abdulati as her visa got approved.Â
Embassy in Cairo called Visa granted.Thank you so much for this prompt response, impressed Appreciate the help @SushmaSwaraj @CODSIndia01

The lady will now be airlifted from her hometown to Mumbai in a specially arranged chartered plane and her treatment will begin at Dr Lakdawala’s hospital, ‘Centre for Obesity and Digestive Surgery’.
Dr Lakdawala thanked Ms Swaraj for her kindness through this tweet.
Now starts my tough journey to give this girl a second chance at life . Thank you Sushma Swaraj Ji . https://t.co/d601BkBinX

We wish the lady gets all the medical attention she needs. Also, we are proud of people like Dr Lakdawala and Ms Swaraj for making the world a better place.
