A Cancer Patient Got The World’s First 3D-Printed Chest Prosthetic And It’s Beyond Amazing

Technology is surpassing the limit of ease these days. With the advent of so many technologies in all spheres, our work is becoming simpler and quicker. And this medical marvel is not far behind.

 Is it heavy?

No. It is lightweight but incredibly strong. Just replacing this titanium rib cage is tricky.

How is this made?

Anatomics, an Australia-based company, used electron beam Arcame 3-D printer to produce the prosthetic.

How this idea came up?

Surgeons at Salamanca University Hospital in Spain thought that replacing the 54-year-old’s ribcage with this prosthetic might help him. They decided that a custom designed would be better to replace missing parts of his chest.

How was it implemented?

With the help of a 3D CT scan, the patient’s chest was scanned and the parts that needed to be replaced were determined. Then they took help from Anatomics.

Was the operation successful?

What stands out is the fact that every implant is different because every human body is different.

This is beyond amazing. After reading this, I was amazed how far we have come in terms of technology. With just a drop of hat, our world is replete with so many technologies (helps if you have a huge bank balance).

This could be THE discovery of 21st century. What say?
