A lot of bizarre and unexpected things keep happening in Bengaluru like women fighting at saree sales, landlords asking for LinkedIn profile links from tenants, and auto drivers being YouTube influencers.
But among them all, today was the day when the silicon valley of India celebrated a rare and unusual day called ‘Zero Shadow Day’.
Some of you might have guessed by the name what happens on this day. But for those scratching their heads, it is a day when exactly at 12:17 p.m., the sun goes directly overhead making vertical objects not cast shadows in broad daylight momentarily. As per News18, ‘Zero Shadow Day’ occurs twice a year.
Come celebrate Zero Shadow Day #ZSD at our Koramangala campus on 25 Apr from 10 AM-1 PM. Sun☀️ will be directly overhead at 12:17.

According to the Astronomical Society of India (ASI), “For people living between +23.5 and -23.5 degrees latitude, the Sun’s declination will be equal to their latitude twice – once during Uttarayan and once during Dakshinayan. On these two days, the Sun will be exactly overhead at noon and will not cast a shadow of an object on the ground.”
Since today was one of those days, some peeps decided to put the phenomenon to the test and Twitter was flooded with visuals of people showcasing that the sorcery actually did happen as claimed.
Take a look:
all vertical objects in the city were shadowless at 12:17 pm! It occurs twice a year when the sun 🌞 is exactly overhead #zeroshadowday #Bengaluru pic.twitter.com/Q6BhxPSdha

Today was apparently the #zeroshadowday phenomenon in Bengaluru at 12:17pm. Vertical placed objects hardly show any drop shadow because of angle at which the sun rays fall. Was testing it on my watch. pic.twitter.com/LKehKAmACw
