We’ve heard so much about Zareen Khan, first that she is a Katrina Kaif look alike and second is that, her body structure isn’t fit to be on screen. There have been relentless comments from viewers and audience about it and honestly we’re sick of the fat shaming, and so is she.

In a recent interview to Huffpost, Zareen Khan bared her soul about this constant prick in her career.

Zareen Khan had gained weight specifically for her role in Veer, but everyone just labelled her and that label stuck, even after she shed those kilos. In 2011, an actress gained weight for a biopic, however the media didn’t scrutinize her the same way, according to Zareen Khan, “And I’m like, whoa, those are like some serious double standards. Just because she’s an established heroine, her hard work is more than mine?”

She went on to quote that ‘Fat is considered Ugly in our country’.

She continued on with gusto, “They’ll talk to you based on your appearance. The personality that one talks about is secondary. It is sad but it just how it is in the superficial world that we live in. Fat is considered ugly in our country.”

She went on to reveal the real reason behind losing weight and her transformation speaks volumes.

“I think there were a lot of things that pushed me towards this change. When I started shedding kilos, I started feeling good from within. I liked the transformation. I could get into clothes I only dreamt of. It was great”.

But Bollywood still didn’t see it that way, she was still called names.

Despite her rigorous workout regime and shedding quite a bit of weight, it wasn’t easy to shed the labels. “It took an item number and getting into a bikini (for Housefull 2) for Bollywood to accept me and believe I wasn’t fat anymore. And then with Hate Story 3 everyone shut up”, Zareen reflected.

Now she has stopped trying to fit in, because she’s learnt to not take hatters seriously.

“I took a step back and figured that it is okay if people don’t like me. That is alright. Not everyone is supposed to like you. You cannot be somebody you’re not. Which is why the younger Instagram generation worries me. It’s like there’s no innocence left. They’re not even living their childhood. There is so much pressure on them. The motivation to lose weight should be simple — do it if it makes you happy, not because someone is making you feel inferior about your body. Nobody should be allowed to dominate you.”

Well, Zareen you’re beautiful and the fat-shamers have got nothing on you. Keep doing you!
