These Are The 25 Worst Passwords Of 2015. Is Yours On This List?

My Yahoo password was “password12345” when I was new to this email business. But what’s funny is that many people still have passwords along similar lines.

SplashData, which makes password management applications, released its annual list of the 25 worst passwords. The list was compiled based on files containing over 3.3. million passwords leaked in 2014.

The list includes insecure passwords from mostly North America and Western Europe. “123456” and ”password” topped the list.

People look for shortcuts, choosing simple-to-remember but also easy-to-crack passwords, making them essentially worthless. SplashData compiled the first worst password list in 2011. Since then, “123456” and “password” have topped the list of worst passwords.

With the release of The Force Awakens, you can see passwords like “starwars” and ”solo” making it to the list.

 

Okay, my password also features in this list, what should I do?

While you should understand that having simple passwords like these may be convenient for you, but it risks your online security. You can refer to TIME‘s article which tells you how to have a strong and easy-to-remember password.

  • Use passwords with 12 characters or more with mixed types of characters.
  • Avoid using the same password over and over again on different websites.
