When someone asks me, “Did you listen to the news today?”, all I want to do is to take a flight and go to a remote mountain where no such tales of atrocities can reach me. Hearing news and knowing what is going around in the world may increase my general awareness but it also makes me sad that people can think and commit such harrowing crimes. Confused?
Rapes. Terror Attacks. Murder. Homicide.
I’m not making this up, there is an actual UN survey (World Happiness Report 2018), that shows and highlight our plight, in the happiness index. And it clearly states that we are far away from being happy. Don’t believe me? Well, see for yourself.
According to this study, Finland has risen from 5th position last year and has emerged as No.1, beating Norway who came 2nd this year.
Are you wondering where our Country stands on this list?
Well, India has scored the 133rd position in the list, falling down 11 places as compared to last year. You’d be surprised, even Pakistan is happier than India and has scored 75th position!
Even small countries like Iran and Iraq have ranked better than us and are at 106 and 117 respectively.
The authors of the 6th World Happiness Report on the evaluation of the countries have stated,
“We first consider the population-weighted global and regional distributions of individual life evaluations, based on how respondents rate their lives.”
Seems like Indians are not happy with living conditions, basic amenities and individual rights. Or am I missing something? Dear Government, are you listening?
