Food can unite people from different races and religions. But it can also sometimes become the reason why people would create a ruckus publically and even resort to physically hurting others, like in this case.
A peacefully proceeding wedding in Kerala’s Alappuzha suddenly turned into a battleground after the wedding guests were denied extra papad or as they say ‘papadam’ during the wedding feast.
According to a report by Onmanorama, it all started when some friends of the groom asked for extra papads (pappadam) at an auditorium near Choondupalaka Junction at Muttam in Harippad. Things got out of hand when their requests were denied by the catering staff.
Soon after, more people joined in the scruffle and created two groups that eventually started attacking each other with the table and chairs at the auditorium.
On hearing the commotion, when the auditorium owner Muraleedharan (74) rushed to the spot, he was brutally hit on the head and was immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Two other people were also hurt in the fight. It was only after the cops intervened that the situation got under control.
A video of these violent papadam lovers is going viral online.
In the great 100% literate state of Kerala, a fist fight broke out at a wedding after friends of the bridegroom demanded papad during the feast. This triggered a verbal spat and ended up in an ugly brawl. No wonder Mallus belo papad. 😆 pic.twitter.com/HgkEUYMwfy

While some called the incident ‘unfortunate’ as it happened in a state that has a 100% literacy rate, others had a good laugh watching the fight unfold.

Like in North India , during marriage ceremony , there will be two characters – PhuFaa ji and JiJaJi who needed to be coaxed and kept in good humour as they tend to be in perpetual higher pedestal looking for trouble .
In kerala it is " Ammavan " /maternal uncle. https://t.co/WQzstR1ueT— #BC🇮🇳 (@binugazi) August 30, 2022

Yes,unfortunately there IS a rush in the dinning hall during sadya in kerala.queues of people also wait behind the dinners to “book” their seats.i don’t know how it is in other states.but in kerala weddings it is happening..very unfortunate

Actually in Kerala the way people rush pushing eachother to the dining hall to get a seat to have food is unbelievable.. don’t know why it is so..🤔have experienced it..😔and this pushing eachother is too normal there.

They picked up the buckets, spoons etc, but not the tables, chairs etc as part of this grand exercise?
Fact is that most of them consume liquor frequently and that is shown in their behaviour.

Clearly, from Kerala to Punjab, it’s the same problem with wedding guests around the country.
