China Issues Alert For ‘Unknown Pneumonia’ More Lethal Than COVID-19 After 1,700 Deaths

The world is still struggling from the pandemic that made its way from China’s Wuhan province in December last year. And while we are trying our best to safeguard our citizens from the coronavirus, China has issued warning against an ‘unknown pneumonia’ that is sought to be deadlier than Covid-19, reported Hindustan Times.

Warning its citizens living in Kazakhstan of the virus, the Chinese embassy said that it has a much higher fatality rate. “The ‘unknown pneumonia’ in Kazakhstan caused 1,772 deaths in the first six months of the year, including 628 people in June alone,” The Indian Express quoted a statement by the embassy.

Chinese citizens in Kazakhstan have been urged to raise their awareness and take necessary measures to prevent the spread of this pneumonia.

“The Chinese embassy in Kazakhstan reminds Chinese nationals here to be aware of the situation and step up a prevention to lower the infection risks,” the statement further read.

Kazakhstan’s healthcare minister said that the number of patients sickened by the pneumonia is ‘two to three times more than those who have been infected with Covid-19.’ After COVID-19 restrictions were lifted in Kazakhstan, the lockdown has been re-imposed suspecting the second wave of infections.

President Kassim-Jomart Tokayev said, “In fact facing the second coronavirus wave coupled with a huge uptick in pneumonia cases.”

The health care department Chief Saule Kisikova said that around 300 people diagnosed with pneumonia are being hospitalised every day. The World Health Organisation (WHO) in a statement said that the virus found in Kazakhstan can be the novel Coronavirus as the country witnessed a huge outburst of COVID-19 cases recently, reported Republic TV.

The international agency is closely working with the Kazakhstan authorities to identify the virus and explore its potential.

We have already lost thousands of people to coronavirus. Let’s hope the world can have a healthier and happier tomorrow.
