Twitter Goes Into ‘Dangal’ Mode As Vinesh Phogat Wins Gold For India At The Asian Games

The Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta is up and running and there is no stopping the Indians. The tournament started on a high for the country after Haryana’s Bajrang Punia grabbed the gold in the men’s freestyle wrestling, 65kg.

However, it was Vinesh Phogat who took the country’s tally of medals to 5 on Monday, by beating Japan’s Yuki Irie in Women’s Freestyle 50 kg final. Her sensational victory fetched the country a second gold medal in the ongoing games and also registered her name as the first female athlete to win a gold at the Asiad.

It was a brilliant display of dominance and power from the 23-year old as she raced onto a 4-0 lead before stretching it further to 6-2. Vinesh, who had won the bronze 4 years ago at Incheon, was flawless throughout the showdown.

Twitter seems elated by Phogat’s remarkable achievement as the social media platform was flooded with congratulatory messages. People went to quote dialogues from Aamir Khan’s ‘Dangal’ which is based on the life of Mahavir Singh Phogat who trained her daughter, Babita and Geeta to be top-notch wrestlers.

Dangal Dangal… (tune plays in the background)

Coming soon.
