Video Of 8th Class Pass Out Performing Operation Goes Viral, Lucknow Hospital Under Investigation

It was a dark day in the history of India’s health care sector when 30 kids passed away within 48 hours in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur. What happened after that? The buck was passed on for a while, a doctor was wrongfully accused and the whole fiasco was muffled by various external factors. However, since the state learnt nothing, another one of its hospitals is under scrutiny after they allowed an inexperienced person to operate.

According to News18, a private hospital in Shamli is being accused of letting an alleged class eight pass-out to operate on one of their patients.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Ashok Kumar Handa said,

“In the video, we can see some people performing an operation who aren’t authorised to do so. From what we can we see, it seems the hospital’s owner is in the O.T.”

Considering how giving anesthesia is a very difficult procedure and requires experience, Handa says he has no idea why it was left in the hands of a nurse.

“A nurse shouldn’t give ANESTHESIA. Now, I don’t know why they’re letting her give the ANESTHESIA when the ANESTHETIST is standing right there. Legal action will be taken against this hospital.”

The hospital in question is Aryan Hospital, located in Lucknow’s Shamli. It has been sealed thrice for irregularities but it still remains open due to the alleged political connections of owner, Nardev Singh.

As per reports, Shamli’s Aryan Hospital has a very bad reputation. More than 24 patients have died in the hospital in the last one year. Out of that, three families have filed an FIR against the institution under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder of the IPC. So, why does it still remain open? The answer is rumoured political ties.

However, those rumours came true when CMO Ashok Kumar sent his team to Aryan Hospital to investigate matter. He said that when the team reached the site, they were stopped by BJP leader Pawan Tarar from undertaking any probe. Additionally, they were not allowed to enter the operation theatre by the hospital authorities.

The CMO has said that they’ve issued a notice to the hospital and has assured action within three days. However, the question still remains that why should it come to this before taking any kind of action? Why are such medical institutions being allowed to run without proper accreditation? And most importantly, when did political power become more important than human life?
