“Shut Up, Or I’ll Rape You.” Kolkata Uber Driver Threatened To Kidnap A Female Passenger

Yet another disgusting event of sexual harassment of women compelled us to hang our heads low in shame. The city of Joy, Calcutta proved yet again to have lost its past glory of being a safe city for women with a repugnant incident that happened inside an app-cab.

“Shut up, or I’ll rape you” (Chup kor, noile rape kore debo tor), 27-year-old female passenger was threatened by the driver as she protested when the driver speeded up and tried to take her to a different direction!

The suspect, Santu Pramanik, 28, has been charged with criminal intimation and molestation and arrested. Santu was produced in court in Wednesday morning and has been remanded in custody of 14 days.

 

The woman had to jump out of the speeding vehicle in order to escape and as she hit and rolled over the ground, she heard the driver threatening to run her over.

“I managed to open the door and get out of the car. He shouting, ‘toke garir talay pishe marbo (I will crush you under the car).”

As she realized she was alone, she decided to jump off. The driver pushed his seat back, trying to block her knees. He then turned around and tried to grab her while hurling abuses. Uber had already called her up and assured that the driver’s account has been cancelled.

 

This incident just shows how pathetic India is becoming for women to live in. Hope the authorities take serious action against the accused.
