Television in India is not only a mode of entertainment but an untapped powerhouse of abundant talent. While Bollywood mostly functions on family lineage and link-ups, the telly world showcases the grit and determination of people who wish to make it big in the showbiz!
But, and while we are talking of talent, I would want to draw your kind attention towards the league of female leads who have not only proved their mettle on the small-screen but have it in them to make it to the big, silver one!
If I were to give you an example, Vidya Balan has exemplified it like nobody else.

In the same spirit, here’s a list of our favourite actresses from the Telly world who we think will make great protagonists.
1. Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya
One of the most popular faces on Indian television, Divyanka Tripathy needs no introduction. She is, after all, every household’s pyaari Ishima from her hit serial ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’. Not to forget her award-winning performance for ‘Banoo Main Teri Dulhan’.
2. Kritika Kamra
Kritika rose to fame for playing the roles of Arohi in ‘Kitani Mohabbat Hai’ and Dr Nidhi in ‘Kuch Toh Log Kahenge’. Needless to say, it’s her screen presence that makes all the difference.

The good news is Mouni Roy who is popularly known as the ‘Naagin’ actress is reportedly busy shooting for her big Bollywood debut ‘Gold’, opposite Akshay Kumar, in London. In fact, grapevines are abuzz that she has also been approached to be cast opposite Salman Khan’s brother-in-law Aayush Sharma in ‘Raat Baaki’. Can’t wait? Same here!
4. Ankita Lokhande
My personal favourite, Ankita Lokhande is one actress who won more than just appreciation for her character portrayal of Archana in ‘Pavitra Rishta’. And now she is all set to make her Bollywood debut in the film ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ which also stars Kangana Ranaut.
5. Krystle Dsouza
Krystal portrayed the lead role of Jeevika Viren Singh Vadhera in the show ‘Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai’ and won our hearts with her girl-next-door looks. We can’t help but wonder how the essence will translate on celluloid!
6. Drashti Dhami
Who doesn’t remember Drashti’s effortless performances in the shows including ‘Dill Mill Gayye’ and ‘Madhubala – Ek Ishq Ek Junoon’. If you’re forgetting she is also the winner of the dance show, ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Ja’. Just the right blend, I say!
7. Nia Sharma
Nia pretty much painted the town red when she was ranked No. 3 in the Top 50 Sexiest Asian Women List by British-based Eastern Eye newspaper leaving behind Bollywood beauties like Katrina, Alia and Sonam. She has also garnered a loyal fan following thanks to her role in ‘Jamai Raja’ as Roshni. Need I say more?
8. Jennifer Winget
Be it her array of roles or her never-give-up attitude, the ‘Saraswatichandra’ actress rules a billion hearts and it goes without saying, she will set the big screen on fire. Currently, she is slaying it in her show, ‘Beyhadh’.
9. Sanaya Irani
The quintessential ‘bahurani’ of Indian television, Sanya Irani came to limelight with her show ‘Miley Jab Hum Tum.’ She subsequently appeared in ‘Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon’, ‘Chhanchhan’ and ‘Rangrasiya’. And is here to stay, no surprises there!
10. Karishma Tanna
Known her bold and sensuous avatar, Karishma Tanna enjoys a fan base like none other. She is also awaiting the release of her next film ‘Tina & Lolo’ which also features Sunny Leone, as well as Sanjay Dutt’s love interest in biopic film Dutt, opposite Ranbir Kapoor.
