Tamil Nadu Restaurant Charged A Guy ₹10 For Using The Loo, Added GST And Parcel Charge To Bill

Ever since I was a little girl, my mother always taught me to use the loo in a good restaurant whenever I was out of the house. But never, in all of 21 years of my life (first two years of life I was free to pee whenever and wherever, you see) did I have to worry about being charged at a restaurant for using the toilet.

So you can imagine my surprise when I came across a Reddit thread in which a man talks about, or rather, shows how a restaurant in Tamil Nadu charged him fees plus GST for using their loo.

That’s not it. If being charged a fee for peeing and adding GST to it wasn’t enough, they charged him a 0.50 paise parcel charge! Mind=boggled!

There are so many cities in the country that have made it a law for restaurants to allow people to use their toilets free of cost. Really, cities like Bengaluru has all made it mandatory for restaurants to allow the use of washrooms to the public.

As surprised as you are, the Redditors were quite surprised and reacted hilariously to it too.

1. This guy who wants to file a Public Interest Litigation.

2. Is this for real?

3. This one’s quite funny!

4. Musta been one hell of a restaurant to be giving bills and adding GST for using the loo.

5. This one knows his Political Science.

I can digest the nominal fee for using the loo, but what is the parcel charge all about? That’s just…weird. Also, if you’re already eating at the restaurant, you shouldn’t ideally be charged for using the loo, right?

This, my friends, is why we need cleaner public toilets. No, it’s not because of being charged for using the toilet in a restaurant. I’m sure nobody minds paying a nominal fee if they get access to proper sanitation facilities. But being charged wrongly is just a big No-No!
