Sushmita Sen Opens Up About The Time A 15 YO Boy Tried To Molest Her

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen is an inspiration. Anything more or less said about her would be an understatement. From becoming the Miss Universe 24 years ago to breaking stereotypes with her crazy workout videos, she is a woman to reckon with.

But being a powerful woman today comes with a price. You might think that with all the security and bodyguards, actresses clearly can’t understand what it is like to be eve-teased or groped in public.

But they do. In fact, more so than ever because they are actresses.

At a recent event held to promote women’s safety, Sushmita Sen spoke about how a 15-year-old boy tried to molest her at an award function six months ago.

“The last time it happened was six months ago. I was at an award function.”

She goes on to narrate how she grabbed hold of her assaulter and pulled him out of the crowd only to find he was a young boy of about 15. At first, he denies his crime. But when Sush persisted on an acknowledgment and apology for his mistake, he took responsibility.

“He thought because there is so much of crowd, that he won’t be caught.

That’s why I tell you, learn something regarding self-defense, it makes you very alert.

So I grabbed his hand, and I was so shocked when I pulled him up, that he was a little boy. 15 years old. Typically for misbehavior like that, I could’ve taken lots of other actions. But because it was a 15-year-old boy, I grabbed him by his neck, as if I was saying hello to him, I took him for a walk in front of the crowd and told him on the way, ‘If I make a hue and cry about this, your life will be over.”

After the boy promised it will never happen again, Sushmita Sen told him that if it does happen again, she has seen his face, which basically implied that this kind of behaviour will not go unpunished next time.

She further added,

“That’s the difference, I recognised in a 15-year-old boy that he’s not been taught that this kind of (behaviour) is not entertainment.”

It is saddening to know that young boys are not being taught how to respect girls and women around them. That they still believe sexual assault, molestation and abuse is a male privilege.

But take a lesson from Sushmita Sen – a) learn self-defense and b) teach them a lesson.
