If you remember, back when we were in school, our teachers used to put their guard down on special days like Children’s Day, Teachers’ Day and their birthdays and dance, sing, and play along with their students. They would dance to Bollywood numbers on stage and give memorable performances while their students cheered on for them. There was nothing wrong with it. Students respected and revered them all the same throughout the year. You see, back then, we didn’t have smartphones and even if we did, we weren’t allowed to take them to school. So recording our teachers dancing and uploading the video online for random people on the internet to judge was not quite the thing.
However, things have changed now. A video of a teacher dancing with her students inside the classroom on her birthday while the song ‘Kajra Re’ played in the background has been circulating online. A good number of people have been slamming the teacher for not maintaining decorum and deemed her act as ‘inappropriate’ and ‘indecent’.

Many were of the opinion that the teacher had a failed moral compass and equated her to those few who have inappropriate relationships with their students. Calling her ‘shameless’, some people thought that it was fitting to character-assassinate her.
There was a time when teachers in the school were the moral compass.. role models.. if they’ve become chapris and honda shernis, it is natural that students will follow suit. All nonsense is being normalised.

However, there were plenty of people who came to her defence. Those who knew her revealed that she is a remarkably qualified and talented teacher and there is nothing wrong with her, or any other teacher for that matter, to have a little bit of harmless fun with her students.
