Those of us who have watched the movie ‘3 Idiots’ thoroughly would remember that one guy with whom Pia (Kareena Kapoor) almost got married twice, but didn’t, thanks to Rancho (Aamir Khan), Farhan (R Madhavan) and Raju (Sharman Joshi).
You must have also thought ‘Acha hua Pia ne us gadhey se shadi nhi ki’. That’s because, in the movie, Suhas Tandon (Olivier Lafont) comes across as an arrogant, materialistic man who was only concerned about his image and his ‘Rs 1.5 lakhs ki sherwani’.
But, over the years of watching the film, a Twitter user has come to realize that he wasn’t a bad person after all. Taking to Twitter, a man named Aaraynsh shared what he thinks of Suhas now.
He feels that losing a 4-lakh rupee watch, getting your 400-dollar shoes dirty, and watching your wife run away from the mandap would make anyone furious. He was concerned about his expensive purchases because he has worked hard to earn the money.
He tweeted:
“Suhas, I used to laugh at you as a kid, but as I grew up, I realized you were a good man. Losing a 4-lakh rupee watch, for which you had worked tirelessly, would drive anyone crazy. I now understand now how it feels when a pair of 400 dollar shoes get dirty. Everyone dreams of earning more money, and you were not wrong in making your career choice. “Tumne sab kamaya tha shyad islye tumhe keemat yaad thi””

Calling him a hero, Aaraynsh further added:
“As someone who grew up in the middle class, I understand the struggle to chase IITs and IIMs in pursuit of our dreams. Even spilling chutney on a sherwani worth 1.5 lakhs on your wedding day and having your fiance walk away from the mandap was not funny. You were a hero.”

After he shared his opinions about this character in the movie, people came to extend their two cents on it. Some said we all have a Suhas in us but we don’t show it.
So true, Kalyan bhaiya! Someone wrote here that when we drop our phone, the very first thing that comes to our mind is the price of the phone.

This is something new perspective of Shuhas, finally someone saw the good in him ✨💛

Perfectly said! And I believe it’s not materialism, it’s a very common trait that anyone would have!
As for career choice, nowadays many people do what suhas did! And actually i always felt that suhas was a metaphor for Chetan Bhagat! IIT, IIM, and then banking!— OjasHvi (@The_Ojashvi) April 16, 2023
Even spilling chatni on dedh lakh ki sherwani on your wedding day is not done.

But some weren’t convinced by his thoughts about Suhas.
But always bragging about money was not funny. Letting others feel only he has achieved everything was not funny. Making his girl not wear her mother’s watch was not funny.
The lesson was to be grounded. 🙂— Naina Borad (@BoradNaina) April 16, 2023
That wasn’t the point. The point was that he was materialistic and cared more about his curated image than things that actually mattered. https://t.co/CaOwmNveaE

Suhas had everything but empathy and manners. Period. And yes, most of us are walking in the same shoes, building dreams, working hard in order to end up with high pay cheques at the month end and that’s perfectly fine. https://t.co/t7NmyHV272

The only valid point in this thread is the fact that Pia agreed to marry him & ditched him at the mandap. Which I agree can be traumatic cuz she knew what a prick he was & still said yes and left at the last moment 😂 https://t.co/z0nJayFQxJ

Naw. Still not feeling it for Suhas. https://t.co/8chkDEQhfg

You know one can talk about the importance of money in life without citing the most hideous character ever seen on the big screen. Suhas was obnoxious to the core then & he will always remain the same. https://t.co/tCpb46yD4M

It's not that deep. He was an insufferable dick. https://t.co/WjIjrsgaK6

After this debate on Suhas’ character went viral, the OG Suhas i.e Olivier Lafont responded to it and said that it’s nice that Suhas is finally getting some love.
“So, finally, this tweet reached the real Suhas of movie 3 Idiots, aka Olivier Lafont.”
"I wish he would have said “dedh lakh ki baat kahi” :p.
Jokes apart, thank you for sharing your opinion. @OliLafont https://t.co/LZO3TqZIc5 pic.twitter.com/g3hUAUkgUr— Aaraynsh (@aaraynsh) April 17, 2023
It makes us feel proud of ourselves when we work day and night to pay off the EMIs for our dream house, the car we always wanted, and the phone we yearned for. Obviously, if something happens to our prized possessions, it will break our hearts and we will be immediately reminded of the cost of the product that took us years to earn.
But, that isn’t a free pass for us to keep humiliating others for their choices, being arrogant, rude, and disrespectful to them. What are your opinions on it?
