“We Are Indebted To Shah Rukh Khan”: Throwback To When SRK Helped A Kashmiri Pandit Family

After the record-shattering success of Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri’s movie ‘The Kashmir Files’ that throws light on the plight of Kashmiri Pandits in the 1990s, several people have come forward to share their stories of those tough times in the valley.

Among the people who witnessed the horror was a Kashmiri Pandit family. And in those tough times, Bollywood’s Shah Rukh Khan extended his hand to support them.

Tweeting an article that talks about how SRK helped the distressed family in 2015, Indian filmmaker Ashoke Pandit wrote:

According to the article published by DNA in 1990, one Deepak Raina and his family had migrated from Sogam, Anantnag, to Delhi in 1990 like many other Kashmiri Pandits.

But when they were returning to Delhi from Jammu in July 2015, the family met with an accident. And in this tragic accident, Sheila, Deepak’s mother died on the spot with his wife Neenu and two-year-old daughter Divya incurring injuries. Both of them were then admitted to Delhi’s Apollo Hospital.

“Neenu was in a coma, Deepak was critical and the child was numb below the waist. The family could not afford the cost of treatment which was in lakhs,” Deepak’s brother-in-law Ramesh Raina told DNA.

This is when, Ashok Pandit, who is also from Kashmir, called up his friend Shah Rukh Khan for help. On listening to their plight, SRK was quick to send them a cheque of ₹3 lakh for the treatment.

“To my utter surprise, Shah Rukh Khan called me up and offered to help in whatever way possible. Within two days I received a cheque from Gauri Khan,” Pandit said. “We are indebted to Shah Rukh Khan for helping us in time of need,” Ramesh added.

Ashoke Pandit’s old tweet has now again gone viral with people once again praising SRK for his heartwarming gesture.

Such is the man with a heart of gold.
