Democracy in India is just a word, and a dream for many. Another evidence of India’s pseudo-democracy came out in the open when Zee Network banned renowned singer Sonu Nigam when he tweeted in support of his friend Kumar Vishwas.
Kumar Vishwas had been accused of making an insensitive comment “latak gaya” when farmer Gajendra Singh hung himself during the AAP rally.
Sonu Nigam tweeted this a couple of days back, that created a stir and made many at Zee Network uncomfortable:
I am far from politics but I feel this truth should come out for the sake of my poet friend Kumar Vishwas. https://t.co/E4QWJrgg6c
— Sonu Nigam (@sonunigam) April 26, 2015
After which he tweeted this early morning today, which made everything clear:
So now Zee announces a ban on me. 🙂 What do I say.. God bless everyone.
— Sonu Nigam (@sonunigam) April 28, 2015
He was clearly upset about it, and the way Zee Network handled the whole situation, and asked a very important question via this next tweet:
Wonder should it not be illegal to ban someone on the pretext of nothing in a democracy? Influencing others to not work with an individual.
— Sonu Nigam (@sonunigam) April 28, 2015
And the extent of his hurt was evident with his next tweet:
Well legal or illegal, one thing’s for sure. Banning someone, is definitely unGodly.
— Sonu Nigam (@sonunigam) April 28, 2015
Kumar Vishwas, who had been receiving flak for the infamous “latak gaya” tweeted, thanking Sonu Nigam for being upfront about the truth:
I had different plans for my 10 Thousandth Tweet, but now, it should go to salute the courage of @sonunigam #IStandWithSonuNigam
— Dr Kumar Vishvas (@DrKumarVishwas) April 29, 2015
It goes without saying that Zee Network isn’t being mature here by putting a ban on Sonun Nigam for expressing his opinion and for shedding light on what he thinks is the truth.
