The social media is a great invention in today’s world. It brings the entire world together, right? Wrong!
We are supposedly getting closer to people these days. Dating apps help us find our prospective significant others just with a swipe of our finger. We are always connected to our friends and family through Whatsapp, facebook, skype etc. Social media has completely wiped off the concept of ‘being left out’. And despite all that, we are actually facing a lot of troubles, especially in our relationships because of these social media induced reasons.
1. Getting friend requests/becoming friends on facebook from strangers of opposite sex
Which in most cases would lead to jealousy, finger pointing and fight.
2. Not wanting to share passwords
Which is completely understandable. Every person has a personal space and perhaps some of that space belongs in the virtual world too. If only your partner would understand that.
3. Even things as petty as a certain person commenting or liking something you’ve posted
Your partner might be a bit jealous of that person, leading to inevitable drama!
4. Or you not liking something your partner might have posted
Something so seemingly negligible can lead to horrible fights.
5. An old account on a social media platform you probably don’t even remember having
Googling is the modern day version of digging up shit. Sorry!
6. Then, of course, the eternal problem of giving enough time and attention to your partner is there
Because we would rather see what KRK has to say about something than the person we claim to love.
7. The very thing that makes social media special might make your relationship go down the drain
I’m talking about being able to keep in touch with people. Why are you still friends with high school sweetheart of Facebook, your partner might ask. Do you have an actual answer?
8. Often we live two lives, have two personalities – one in real life, one in social media
Someone who’s an introvert in real life might be extremely vocal, flirty and loud over social media. And people around them, especially the partner wouldn’t know which personality to believe in!
9. Lastly, the problem of too much information
Old school dating allows people to gradually get to know each other. But due to social media, we get to know even intimate information of a person even before starting to date him or her. Needless to say, too much information is generally too much to handle!
So keep the mobile phones, laptops, and tablets aside and go out on an actual date, or simply listen to what your partner has to say rather than favouriting her tweet.
