To call Shikhar Dhawan’s marriage to Aesha Mukerji tumultuous would be an understatement. He was recently granted a divorce from Aesha and the details about their marriage and separation are shocking. Shikhar Dhawan and Aesha Mukerji got married in 2012. They also have a son named Zoravar. This was Aesha’s second marriage and she had two daughters from her first marriage.
Shikhar was granted divorce from Aesha on the grounds of “mental cruelty” inflicted on him by her, reported Live Law. Here’s what we know.

Aesha was born in India but she lives in Australia. After her marriage to Shikhar, she had assured him that she would be living with him in India but she continued to stay in Australia because of her commitment to her former husband about taking care of their two daughters. Zoravar was also staying in Australia with her because he was born there. Shikhar had to live without his family for long periods of time.
“It stands proved that respondent backtracked from her assurance of setting up matrimonial home in India after marriage and thus made the petitioner suffer a long distance marriage and suffer immense agony and anguish of living separately from his own son for years,” the court observed.

Shikhar Dhawan owns three properties in Australia. According to NDTV, Aesha forced him to make her a co-owner of those properties. She owned 99% of one of the properties and was a joint owner in the other two. Aesha was unable to prove to the court that she did not force him to make her a co-owner of the properties.
“Thus, Dhawan’s allegation that she compelled him to make her owner to some extent in all three properties or that she pocketed sale proceeds thereof has got to be believed as true,” the court declared.
It was also revealed in court that Shikhar was forced to not only pay child support for Zoravar but also for the two daughters from Aesha’s first marriage. She already received child support for them from her first husband.

Since all these claims were uncontested by Aesha, it was proved that she had nothing to lose from this case even if she is proven guilty as she had already gotten “sufficient favourable orders from the Federal Circuit and Family Court in Australia”, reported TOI.
According to an earlier report by Zee News, Shikhar had filed a plea against Aesha at a Delhi court because she threatened to ruin him and his reputation. He alleged that she circulated defamatory messages to the CEO of the IPL team Delhi Capitals, with the intention of ruining his image. The court had even restrained Aesha from circulating defamatory messages about Dhawan to anybody or on any platform.
Aesha continues to have custody of Zoravar and Shikhar has to contest it in Australia. For now, the Delhi court has granted him visitation rights. Aesha has been ordered to bring him to India and let him stay with Dhawan and his family for half of his school vacations, including overnight stay.
