Shenaz Treasury Writes A Letter After She Gets Trolled For A Tweet To Modi About Women Safety

Let’s address the elephant in the room. Women, anywhere in the world do not feel safe, at all. And while we have few good men who go out of their way to help women; there are many who are involved in the heinous crimes that are unspeakable of.

And that’s the irony, many women don’t speak about being harassed and suffer in silence. In the world we live in, a woman gets raped every 2 minutes. It’s very important that we talk about it and not stay mum.

This is exactly what Shenaz Treasury did. She took to the task to tweet to PM Narendra Modi and the Supreme Court, EVERYDAY. She tells them that women don’t feel safe and asks them to do something to ensure the safety of women in the country.

Everyday she tries to reach out to PM Modi and asks people to join her and raise their voice for crime against women.

Twitter did not take thus gesture well and she got trolled incessantly. She took to DNA to write a letter to all her trolls and it’ll hit you where it hurts. Read along –

Dear trolls,

I went with a girlfriend to the National Museum in Delhi. Within minutes we were followed by large groups of men. We felt unsafe and had to leave. I was at a party the night before. At 1 am I wanted to go home. Did I feel safe taking an Ola or Uber? NO! My heart was pounding, I was sweating, I kept checking the map to see that he was going in the right direction. Why should I?

Do men ever feel a slightest bit of threat? So why in the world should we? There is a rape every two minutes in our country. Headlines like this everyday. “Days after the brutal Haryana rape, three men gangrape Sikkimese women in moving car in Gurugram…” We try not to read the whole story. We shudder and then two minutes later go about our lives. The end of this problem begins with a voice, your voice, our collective voices. The government has an obligation to us. Whether it’s BJP or Congress, I don’t care. This is not political. So please for God’s sake stop writing to me asking me why I am saying this to our PM Modi and never said anything to Congress.

I don’t give an Eff about who is in power. I believe they are all the same. I care about women and their safety and equality.

Our women need to be safe. Pressure those in power to do something. Use whatever power you have and tweet to the government every single day. Demonstrate. Make this your No.1 issue.

Before anything else. Not even baby girls are safe in our country. Tweet to the Prime Minister, tweet to the Supreme Court, wake up India. Your women are not equal, not safe. Is this a country for women? Is rape India’s middle name? Don’t stop, won’t stop. And hashtag #nocountryforwomen #itsnotourshame

I am so angry! You should be too.

Yours sincerely,

Shenaz

Shenaz is angry at how insensitive our country has become about rape and molestation. We read about it and go back to our lives, like it’s an everyday affair. And THAT’S the problem. We can’t just go back when every women you and I know is in danger.

Kudos Shenaz, we appreciate what you are doing for the womankind. More power to you.
