In The Run For Grades We’ve Left Humanity Behind: Renuka Pens A Bold Post On Ryan Murder Case

It was a shrouded morning, we were discussing the deadly smog that had engulfed the capital city when the news of the Ryan murder case came to the fore and jolted us from within. That an 11th grader has been arrested, for allegedly slitting the throat of 7-year-old Pradyuman Thakur just because he wanted to cancel exams was unfathomable but when has reality cajoled us really?

However, amidst all the flashing headlines, there were questions no media house asked. There are things that no one is bothered to acknowledge. None but actor, Renuka Shahane.

In a heart-wrenching Facebook post, Renuka has voiced her angst about the inept investigation and the plight of the poor and hapless driver who was framed in the conspiracy to cover-up.

“I’m sure all of you must have heard who the real culprit is in the Pradyuman murder case. The CBI has taken into custody an 11th grader who allegedly thought nothing of slitting the throat of an innocent 7-year-old school boy just so that the school will have to declare a holiday, exams won’t be held & parents-teachers meeting won’t follow soon after. It sickens me how violence is considered cool these days & in the run for grades we’ve left humanity far behind.
The rich parents, the management of the school & the Gurugram police who did such a shoddy job, didn’t mind making a scapegoat of an innocent man whose only crime was his poverty. It’s time “International Schools” wake up & start actually educating their pupils. And somewhere I hope somebody is teaching the rich that not everything can be bought with money; definitely not good values & definitely not a good education. There are no shortcuts in life & no expressway has milestones! RIP Pradyuman.

 

Botched or not, the entire case has shaken the nation and imagining the condition of the parents who lost their precious doesn’t make it easier. Also, nothing takes away from the fact that systems in place need to be more than just present.

Like Renuka said, RIP Pradyuman.
