Everybody has fears.
And there are some fears that scare a big group of people. But these fears can be overcome with logical thinking, and that is exactly what we are going to do right now – rationalizing the fears so that they are not so scary anymore.
1. Afraid of crowds and Earth becoming  too overpopulated in the future?
Worry not. If we had to fit the whole population of the world with the density of Delhi, we could fit all of it in the state of Uttar Pradesh.
Overpopulation is not a problem, distribution of resources is.
2. Afraid of being bang in the middle of a terrorist attack?
Worry not. You are more likely to be killed in a train-related accident in India than in a terrorist attack.
3. Afraid of getting eaten by sharks while swimming in the sea?
You are more likely to be killed by getting electrocuted by touching one of the electric poles on the road.
4. Afraid of spider bites?
Worry not. Unless you have a rare allergy to the spider venom, you will probably not die of a spider bite. Spider bites are harmless, however venomous they may be, they will not kill you outright like a snakebite.
5. Afraid of a tiger or a leopard attack?
Do not fear. Worldwide, deer kill more people than tigers, lions, spiders, snakes and bears combined.
6. Airplane crash because of a hole in the body
Fear not. Pilots have landed planes with hole in them before. It is an emergency, but an emergency they have been trained for extensively.
7. Afraid of a bee or a wasp or a hornet bite?
Relax. Bees, wasps and hornets attack when they are threatened. Usually, this happens when they are on their hives, protecting eggs and honey. If a swarm attacked you, you probably disturbed their hive, and hence, you deserve it.
8. On a more interesting note, coconuts falling on people kill more humans than shark attacks in the world.
9. Worried about the pollution power plants spew into the air, causing smog and whatnot?
See the smoke coming out of the power plant above? That’s not smoke. It is water vapor, from a nuclear plant. Hydroelectric power plants do not have emissions either. It is the coal powered plants we have to worry about, but even they are being phased out slowly.
10. Afraid of dying in an airplane crash?
Just because of two or three bad airplane crashes, we cannot be so afraid of airplane crashes, because although they are so widely publicized, airplane crashes have caused very few casualties in the past decade.
In airplane crashes, statistically, you have a 90% chance of survival. Airplanes are not as fickle as you think they are.
11. Afraid that a vampire bat may bite you and you get rabies?
Fear not. Vampire bat bites are very rare.
12. Afraid of snakes?
Snakes are extremely cautious and shy creatures. Unless you startle them or deliberately step into their territory, they will not get aggressive.
Snakebites are a result of ignorance rather than snake aggression.
13. Afraid of dark places?
You need to go to dark places more. That’s when you will realize that the only threat from a dark place is tripping over an object you could not see and breaking your neck.
14. Afraid of being struck by a lightning and dying?
Ok, this is a very rational fear, because lightning caused the most number of deaths by a natural calamity in the year 2014.
But that was because the weather was so bad, lightning strikes were very common. The same did not happen in the year 2015.
15. Afraid that your computer might get hacked?
People might have warned you to stay away from shady porn sites, since they are very likely to infect your computer with a malicious piece of software.
But the truth is that religious sites are actually more likely to infect your computer than pornography sites.
As a wise man once said –
