Pune School Orders Female Students To Wear Only Certain Colour Innerwear, Angers Parents

Usually, when authorities imply ‘dress code’ it tends to refer to what you must wear on the outside. Because your inner wear is quite literally ‘andar ki baat‘. However, this Pune school has issued a diktat that has put this very assumption under question.

MAEER’s MIT School in Pune, Maharashtra, has managed to baffle and irk students’ parents by issuing guidelines about the kind of innerwear the female students ought to wear.

According to the guidelines, the girls have been asked to wear either white or skin colour innerwear only. They have even mentioned the length of the skirt to be worn by them.

Outraged parents and students staged a protest on Wednesday outside the school.

“The School is asking us to sign the school diary which mentions this.”

Apart from the colour of the innerwear and skirt lengths, the parents also revealed that the school had allotted fixed time slots for when the students could use the washroom or even drink water.

Despite the outrage, the school authorities continue to assure that the guidelines were issued keeping the safety of the students in mind.

“We didn’t have any hidden agenda.”

The protests from parents and students alike has prompted the state education minister to order a probe into the matter.

Education Minister Vinod Tawde told the media,

“I have directed the education department to conduct a detailed enquiry in this matter. If necessary, we will take action.”

Let’s see if this Pune school’s diktat is indeed found to be beneficial for female students and enforced or scraped. Do you think it’s a fair rule to subject female students to?
