54 People Arrested For Attending Boozy Pool Party In Ludhiana Amid Pandemic

Even though the country has opened up after the coronavirus lockdown, the virus has not entirely subsided. 90,802 fresh cases have been registered in the last 24 hours, bagging India the second spot in the list of worst-hit nations by the pandemic. The country’s COVID-19 infection tally has reportedly crossed 42 lakh.

Even though scores of people still fear losing their lives to COVID-19, some citizens don’t really seem to care about social distancing. Recently, residents of Ludhiana were put behind bars for flouting COVID-19 guidelines.

According to a report by NDTV, 54 people were taken to task for attending a pool party organised at a restaurant amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Additional Deputy Commissioner of police, Sameer Verma, “Yesterday (5th September) we got the information about a restaurant owner organizing a pool party in Sarabha Nagar police station limits with 50 to 55 people.”

“On getting information, we raided the site where people were seen flouting COVID-19 rules. We have registered an FIR under section 188, 269, and 61 of IPC. Five bottles of whiskey and five cartons of beer have been seized.”

Streets are crowded and people have started living a normal life after economic activities opened up across the country. However, we should not forget that our battle with the virus is far from over. Taking necessary health precautions, wearing masks, following social distancing are still need of the hour.
