One of my fondest memories of the year 2016 is walking around my neighbourhood, pointing my phone in different directions, and trying to catch Pokémons. ‘Pokémon GO’ was like the PUBG of 2016, where people had become so addicted to catching virtual Pokémons that they’d dangerously cross busy roads and sometimes bump into a car!
Slowly as other videogames started gaining popularity, Pokémon GO took a back seat. However, something similar is about to hit us again, and this time Potterheads are going to be the happiest.
A Pokémon GO style ‘Harry Potter’ Game is going to release this Friday and fans are going crazy! According to sources, ‘Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’, a free location-based augmented reality game is to be launched tomorrow, available for Android and iOS devices. The game is developed by WB Games San Francisco and Niantic Labs. This comes after being inspired by the massive popularity of Pokemon Go.
“Harry Potter: Wizards Unite allows players to roleplay as wizards tasked with containing magic that appears all over the Muggle (normal, non-magic) world. They’ll have to brew potions, cast spells, and even teleport using a magical device called a Portkey”, reported CNN.

According to the official website, a player’s journey begins as a “new recruit” of the Statute of Secrecy Task Force, established by the Ministry of Magic and the International Confederation of Wizards for the purpose of investigating and containing “The Calamity”.
The website reads, “A calamity has befallen the wizarding world, causing artefacts, creatures, people, and even memories to mysteriously appear in the Muggle world. Witches and wizards from across the globe must come together to solve the mystery of The Calamity, overcome the confounding chaotic magic that surrounds these ‘Foundables’, and return them to their rightful place, keeping them safe from Muggle eyes.”
We may not have received our ‘Hogwarts Letters’ but a game where we are virtually a part of the wizarding world, playing with magic and everything? I’m in!
