Mumbai Couple Pens Unique Contract For Sharing Custody Of Their Beloved Dogs In Divorce Deal

Raising a pet doggo together is often one of the dreams of dog-loving couples. And I happen to know a few who have everything planned, right from the adoption agency to their names. But what will happen if this couple decides to split? Who will gain custody? How will the other partner be able to meet their pawsome kids?

Well, if they love their doggos more than anything then they’ll definitely chalk out a mutual plan to share their custody like this Mumbai couple.

A banker and his homemaker wife, who were married for around 18 years, had rescued and adopted two one-month-old Indie pups three years ago. However, after encountering irreconcilable problems in their relationship, they decided to part ways, reports Times Of India. But they didn’t want their furballs to bear the brunt of their divorce.

The couple, who had filed for a mutual consent divorce in February this year, after separating in December 2018, didn’t want to compromise on the welfare of the Indie brothers. Hence, they sat down together and mutually came up with a detailed plan that would enable both of them to lawfully remain parents of the canines, post their divorce, reports Times Now.

According to their unique formal contract:

  1. The husband gets the primary custody while his wife got the dogs for “a continuous period of one month” three times a year.
  2. She would also get “visitation rights at convenient times with prior intimation.”
  3. As planned, their deal could be paused and ‘either one of them could take custody of the dogs for two days during a week or during the weekends after prior intimation.’
  4. The pet parents are allowed to travel with the pooches, however, they need to intimate the other partner well in advance if they intend to extend their travel plans to a week or more.
  5. For local travel, the parent has to intimate the other two days in advance.

Their lawyer remarked that their separation was a unique example of “a family treating every member humanely and separating with peace.”

Very rarely do we hear about people who treat the adorable furry creatures no less than their family members. At a time when a lot of pet owners have abandoned their animals, this piece of news comes as a silver lining.
