“Creativity Should Not Be Stopped In Democracy,” Says Priyanka In Support Of Udta Punjab!

With the Udta Punjab row soon headed to a showdown verdict on the 13th of June by the Bombay High Court, Bollywood is rallying support for Udta Punjab for its raw and real depiction of the drug abuse culture in Punjab.

Newest to be added to the roster of supporters for the film is our very own Priyanka Chopra.

In a recent event in Patna, Bihar, Priyanka Chopra addressed the issue, saying that it is not right to curb the freedom of expression in our democracy.

“Creativity should not be stopped in democracy.”

Priyanka further went on to say that our forefathers fought for our freedom and democracy after a very long fight, and to rob us of the same would be unconstitutional. She added, “In democracy you cannot dictate what one should eat or watch a movie on a social issue.”

 

Priyanka also faced censorship issues in her own movie ‘Jai Gangaajal’, and she addressed the topic of censoring of the title of Udta Punjab as well.

“The CBFC is a certification body and not censor.”

She said that asking to altering the title of the movie was not justified. When asked the reason, she answered, “Title is the creativity of every producer and director. So, how can it be changed?”

In this ongoing war between free speech and blatant censorship, who will win?
