Among the stars, which bear the brunt of shaming for what they wear, is Priyanka Chopra. She has been shamed for wearing a dress and “showing off her legs” while meeting PM Modi. She was not spared even when she posted a picture of herself on Independence Day.
The star who has been proudly representing the country on the global platform was embroiled in controversy yet again when a calendar for Assam Tourism was launched. Priyanka is the new ambassador for the state and multiple videos of her draped in a traditional “mekhela sador” has delighted everyone. This is the calendar in question.
But not anymore! Because the dress Priyanka wore for the calendar was apparently not “sober enough” as her “frock” revealed a little bit of skin, as objected to, by Congress MLAs Nandita Das and Rupjyoti Kurmi in the assembly.
According to a report in DNA, Kurmi stated his reasons for objection to the calendar and said,
Not only this they are also demanding that the Quantico star be removed as the Tourism ambassador for the state.
However, the Chairman of the Assam Tourism Development Corporation Jayanta Malla Baruah (ATDC) stands by doesn’t find anything objectionable with her picture. He said,
“The calendar was made to promote Assam internationally. It has also been sent to prominent international tour operators and dignitaries.
Priyanka Chopra is an international figure and her presentation in the calendar has not diminished Assam’s culture in any way.”
Twitterati have also stood up in solidarity with the actress and have defended her attire in the calendar.

We hope that the controversy dies down soon and Assam tourism gets the traction it is hoping to receive through this campaign.
While the controversy has turned into a political war of words, as a citizen and a neutral spectator, would you promote a place by dressing up in its ethnic wear displaying the rich cultural heritage of the place or would you rather simply show up in a regular outfit? Would you rather be interested in visiting Japan after looking at a celebrity wearing Kimono, or an everyday skirt? Food for thought.
