Pakoda Wala From Ludhiana Surrenders ₹60 Lakh Tax In IT Raid

If you are willing to earn big in life, you better try your hands on selling ‘pakodas’. Well, this might seem as an advice to laugh at but let me tell you that there are people who are earning more than engineers and doctors, by doing so. And Panna Singh Pakorewala from Ludhiana is a prime example.

Famous among the Ludhianvis as ‘Pannu Pakorewala’, Panna Singh Pakorewala surrendered a whopping amount of ₹60 Lakh to the IT department on Friday. The raid was conducted by the Income Tax Department, which saw a day-long survey on Thursday.

According to The Times of India, there were complaints of suppression of income against Panna Singh which led to the raids. While his first outlet at the Gill road was raided first, his second shop going by the name of ‘Pakora Outlet’ in Model Town was invaded next.

The financial records of the enterprise were thoroughly inspected on Thursday. On the instruction of principal commissioner, DS Chaudhary, officers were placed at the cash counters of both the outlets to keep an eye on the daily sales.

The approximate annual tax and liability of the enterprise were analyzed by the IT department by monitoring the daily sales. They were then verified with the enterprize’s income tax returns and the tax deposited by them.

Panna Singh started his journey from the scratch in 1952 with a small shop at Gill road. In a matter of years, the shop gained immense popularity in Punjab and other states because of its lip-smacking ‘Paneer Pakodas’ and ‘Dahi Bhalla’.

He has a varied range of customers which include politicians, bureaucrats, businessman, policemen etc. And If that wasn’t astounding enough, another dry-fruit store in Miller Ganj surrendered ₹1 crore on Thursday. Sigh.
